Working in environmental business publishing after 10 years in the world of journals & books, I applied for and got a job as Sales & Marketing *officer at the Business Environment Centre – part of the trading arm BTCV Enterprises Ltd in Sheffield.
I received the ‘pack’ by post and it was labelled up as ‘S&M’ *so I decided any organisation that could use S&M on an envelope had a good sense of humour. A drive-by of Bessemer House after-hours in 1998 got the vote of confidence from my then 8-year-old who explained that it was ‘a recycled building’. I think it may be re-designated as ‘housing’ now, but I have many happy memories of a vibrant & productive building making a huge difference to the lives of many people.
16 years later – and multiple changes/swapping between the Trading Arm and the Charity – I ended my time with TCV as Business Development Director during a time of great change in the business model.
I believe I’ve held onto the core values of the organisation and am now keeping the flame alive with my work in an Urban Farm. Environmental education and sustainability is more important than ever – TCV taught me all I know
