Hi, my name is Antje and I am a volunteer at the Seven Lochs Wetland Park in Scotland.
Our group meets every Friday and does conservation work in Glasgow and North Lanarkshire in partnership with TCV; for example, at Hogganfield Park, various sites in Easterhouse, Drumpellier Country Park, Gartcosh LNR and Glenboig. I have been doing this voluntary work for about eight years and I enjoy it very much. It is very interesting and I learnt many new things; for example, how to cut a tree or build a bird box. The role involves a variety of tasks such as planting trees and wildflowers, sowing, creating ponds, cutting back vegetation, as well as creating and weeding paths.
We also helped with the creation of the innovative BioHaven islands at Hogganfield and Drumpellier and took part in several litter picks. It is good for getting out and about in nature and getting to know the local green spaces. The job gives you exercise and allows you to meet new people and make new friends. The work also supports the protection of the environment through the removal of invasive non-native species and the creation of biodiversity habitats such as wildflower meadows. Congratulations TCV and thank you for all these fantastic years!
